Class of 2000
The following are the key SENIOR players from the Region and around the state that will be factors for their respective teams this season. They are not ranked, but are shown in alphabetical order.
Class of 2000
Melanie Brumbaugh (5'11") Hanover Central - A Times 2nd Team All-Area selection last year. Led the Wildcats to their first-ever Semi-State appearance. A strong and aggressive rebounder who plays physical in the paint. Averaged 14 points, 8 rbs., and 2 blocks per game.
Allyson Carnahan (5'10") Crown Point - Ranks 2nd on the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs all-time 3 pt. shooting percentage list shooting 45.2% from long range. A seasoned veteran who will serve as one of Crown Point's tri-captains this year.
Stephanie Gill (5'10") Munster - A Times 2nd Team All-Area selection last year. Tough competitor who can rebound and score. Averaged 10.9 points and 2.7 assists last season.
Susan Hay (5'7") Munster - A Times 1st Team All-Area selection last year, Susan averaged 11.6 points and 3.1 assists last season. A WBCA Super Select Camp attendee this summer. Known for her all out style of play and hustle on the court.
Kathy Herring (5'7") Hammond Morton - An excellent all-around athlete. She is one of the top volleyball players in the state. A WBCA Super Select Camp attendee this summer. Averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 assists, and 3 steals per game last season. Has scored more than a 1,000 points in just 3 years at Morton. COLLEGE: NORTHWESTERN STATE (Volleyball)
Tiffany Humphrey (5'4") Hammond - A Times 2nd Team All-Area selection last year. Solid defender who led the Region in steals last season with 6.9 steals per game. She can play offense too, averaging 16.3 points and 3.4 assists last season.
Kristi Koselke (6'0") North Newton - The Spartans's first ever Division I recruit. Averaged 18.5 points and 8 rebounds per game last season. A versatile player who plays the off-guard and shooting forward positions most the time, but can also handle the point when necessary. A Times 2nd Team All-Area selection last season. COLLEGE: VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY
Julie Mandon (6'0") Hobart - A force inside. Julie was the blue collar worker on last year's team. She's known for her aggressive play, and should be one of the top post players in the Region this year.
Tracie Mezera (5'7") River Forest - Led River Forest to its' first ever winning season, conference title, and sectional championship last year. Captured the Region's scoring title, and finished the year as one of the state's leading scorers averaging 24 points per game. A 1st team All-Area selection for both the Times and Post Tribune last season.
Kim McGinley (5'10") Morgan Township - One of the Cherokee's top players over last few years. The lefty was a 2nd Team All-Area selection last season. She averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 7.4 rebounds per game last year.
Michelle Pickering (5'5") Portage - One word describes "Pic" and that's -- hustle! She leaves everything she has on the floor each and every game. A Times 2nd Team All-Area selection last season. She averaged 9 points, 3.6 assists, and 3 steals for last year's Duneland Conference Champions.
Erin Sampsel (5'11") Valparaiso - Was Valpo's floor general last year. Sees the floor very well, and led the Region in assists last season. Averaged 8.2 points and 6.7 assists last year. Will take over the leadership role, now that Jeanette Gray is off to Valpo U. A Times 2nd Team All-Area selection last year, she is being recruited by several Division I schools.
Kelly Schoon (6'0") Lowell - Should be the Region's top power forward this season. She's an excellent shot blocker and rebounder, who can also put points on the board. Averaged 8.9 ppg and 7.5 rpg last season.
Becky Schuster (5'11") North Newton - A extremely hard-working and solid scorer for the Spartans, averaging 17.9 ppg and 12 rpg. She will be key if the Spartans are to make a successful run with an experienced crew in 1999-2000. She was a Times Honorable Mention last season and is being recruited by several D1 schools.
Natalie Yudt (6'0") Portage - A Times 1st Team All-Area selection last season. Averaged 12.9 points for last year's Duneland Conference Champions. Played for the Indiana Junior All-Star Team this summer, and is a legitimate Indiana All-Star candidate this season. COLLEGE: WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY
