After statewide weather delays, the first two rounds of sectional play are nearly complete. Some sectionals are playing two rounds on Saturday to make up for delays due to blizzard-like conditions early in the week. We have lots of news coverage to pass on about many of the exciting wins so far this season.

Of note, several ranked teams have already seen their seasons come to a close as of Friday evening.

In 4A, No. 8 Kokomo lost to unranked Logansport 47-41. No. 9 Penn lost to No. 12 South Bend Clay in an emotional week for the Colonials. Senior Deenisha Scott, together with her teammates, attended the funeral of her father just hours before their 56-43 win over the Kings(wo)men. Scott, normally a starter, came off the bench to play in her father's honor and contributed to her team's win.

In 3A, the highly anticipated matchup we previewed last week between No. 3 Hamilton Heights and No. 4 Mount Vernon (Fortville) in Sectional 27 found the Marauders avenging their only loss of the season with an exciting 70-56 overtime win to advance over Mount Vernon. Juniors Jessica Carr (25 points) and Libby Ogden (23 points) combined for nearly 70 percent of the Marauders' offense. Hamilton Heights will now have to face 3A No. 1 Rushville in order to advance. The Lions had an easy 72-43 win over New Palestine to advance to the championship game. No. 7 Gibson Southern lost to No. 5 Evansville Memorial 46-32.

No. 3 Jimtown in 2A lost a 41-40 shocker to unranked LaVille, leaving the Jimmies at 19-2 for what was a tremendous regular season. Jimtown sorely missed the services of top scorer Sarah DeShone, who suffered a knee injury last week. No. 7 Indian Creek lost to No. 9 Heritage Christian in a thrilling 58-57 game, and No. 10 North Posey lost to unranked Evasnville Mater Dei 65-54, at team they beat by 15 points back in December.

In 1A, No. 9 Tri Central lost to unranked Rossville 56-53 in a marathon two OT game. The Trojans defeated Rossville by nearly 20 points in mid-January, but the Hornets came ready to play despite losing their last two games of the season. Led by Sydney McGill's game-high 18 points, Rossville will now face Lafayette Central Catholic in the Saturday championship game. The Hornets have not won a sectional title since 1990.
