Indiana D1s prepare for preseason slate
Region Roundball Review

Just two weeks into the start of official practice, Indiana's ten NCAA Division 1 teams are slated to begin preseason action this weekend.  Over the course of nine days beginning November 1, they will combine to play thirteen contests against Division 2, Division 3, NAIA and (in one case) all-star competition.

Three games kick off the slate on Sunday as Valparaiso hosts D2 Indianapolis, Indiana welcomes NAIA standout Lambuth (TN), which has advanced to the national title game two of the previous three seasons, while Indiana State brings in D2 Bellarmine (KY).  The only game not being held on the D1 host campus will be Monday as IUPUI will play D2 Kentucky State at Conseco Fieldhouse.  Tuesday will see Notre Dame kick off their preseason with a visit by Indianapolis.  There are no games Wednesday, but on Thursday Indiana will host perennial D2 power Grand Valley State (MI) while Ball State squares off against the Hoosier Lady Stars, a collection of former college standouts that in recent years have included Jill Chapman, Johna Goff, Lisa Shepherd, and Jennifer Jacoby.

The second half of games to kick off next weekend will begin Friday, Nov. 6 when local D3 foe Manchester comes over to Ft. Wayne to take on IPFW.  Saturday will see two other nearby schools collide as D2 Oakland City makes the short drive over to Evansville to face the Purple Aces.  A pair of games comprise the Sunday schedule as NAIA member Lindsey Wilson (KY) invades Purdue, while Indiana State hosts former satellite campus Southern Indiana.  Everything wraps up on Monday, Nov. 9 as D3 toughie DePauw comes to Butler to take on the Bulldogs and Valparaiso bookends the first preseason game in the state with the final tipoff, bringing in recent NAIA national champion Indiana Wesleyan.
