Kelly Faris HC (13 pts, 8 reb, 5 ast)
Liz Stratman HC (12 pts, 9 reb, 4 blks, 4ast)
Mental Attitude Award - Lauren Meese, Oak Hill
Wow, huge bank jumper by Freeman wins it for HC. Not enough time for OH to respond. Great, great effort by both teams. If you decided to stay home because you thought the early session games wouldn't be worth the time, boy you missed out!
0:07.8 - HC holds for the last shot and calls a time out. Look for Faris to take the shot. Still tied up 58-58.
1:38 - Faris picks up her fourth foul with Coolman at the line. She hits both. Faris and Freeman are coming up with some pretty gritty play here in OT.
4Q - Oak Hill 54, Heritage Christian 54
Wow, ANOTHER overtime game. Interesting game as HC's two premiere players, Faris and Freeman have combined for only 18 points in the game. Two big free throws by Faris with under a minute gave them the two they needed to stay in the game. Moses has been an absolute STUD today. Purdue is getting a very, very good one.
1:28 - Outstanding bucket from Marissa Coolman of OH. She will be at the line for a bonus shot. OH takes the tenuous lead 53-52 with the bonus yet to come. Exciting games here at Lucas folks!
1:43 - Faris at the line for 1-and-1. Gets both.
3:21 - Stratman gets two MONSTER blocks in this period.
4:31 - HC goes on a big run to take the lead. Big shots from Stratman and Emily Anderson. Anderson leads all HC scorers with 14. HC 50, OH 47
5:20 - Two free throws by Stratman gests HC within 1.
7:36 - Moses is just tearing up today. Outstanding. Has 19 points on the day so far. She's good for a drive and one, OH 42, HC 38
3Q - Oak Hill 39, Heritage Christian 38
All Stars coach Charlie Hall stopped by. Said that UConn coach Chris Dailey is here to see Faris play. So far, Faris has been held to 5 points in the game. She will need to have a breakout fourth quarter to carry HC to their fourth title.
0:51 - Pickering picks up her fourth on a Faris muscled shot, pretty far from the action. Not sure about that call. Faris was fouled, but I don't think it was Pickering. Huge momentum swinger for HC.
1:53 - HC back in it with two straight buckets from Stratman. Now. Anderson on the line for 2. She hits both. Tied up at 37!
3:19 - Oak Hill running way from Heritage Christian right now. OH is playing extremely good defense, taking HC out of their comfort zone. They are challenging HC to hit from the outside, but the shots aren't falling. Freeman, usually a very good shooter, is struggling from the field. She kept them in it in the first half, though. OH 37, HC 31
Going to concentrate on some photos this half.
Haltime thoughts - Heritage Christian is really being challenged by Oak Hill this year. The big difference maker in my mind is Pickering, who is causing all kinds of problems for HC in the post. She is picking off rebounds to prevent any HC second chances. When she was out of the 2nd quarter late due to picking up her second foul, HC was able to get four offensive rebounds. That would not have happened with Pickering in the game. Look for Faris to step it up in the 2nd half. She only has 2 points so far, both points from the line and she is 0-1 from the field.
2Q - Oak Hill 28, Heritage Christian 27
HUGE three by little HC freshman Brittany Webb. OH's Moses answers with an and-1. Then four offensive rebounds for HC on the other end, Jones goes to the line for 2. OH 28, HC 27. Pickering, who has 13 points already, picked up her 2nd foul late in the half.
3:40 - HC's Anderson picks up her 2nd. Eight team fouls so far for HC. Lauren Meese makes two more. OH 25, HC 21.
5:41 - Faris picks up her third foul against Pickering. This could mean some real trouble for HC. The Eagles are just not the same team without her on the floor. The other HC players will have to pick it up big time to keep them in the game through the next five minutes. OH 20, HC 19, Pickering still has one free throw to go from the Faris foul.
6:29 - Freeman to the line for one-and-one. Hits both. Gets HC within 2.
End of 1Q - OH 18, HC 15
Two huge threes by Emily Anderson of HC, but Freeman picks up her second foul. Pickering still unstoppable, hits a runner as the clock expires in the 1st.
Nobody can stop Pickering. She scores again and pulls down a defensive rebound on the other end. OH 14, HC 9
1Q 2:27 - Faris off the floor. OH goes on a 4-0 run. OH 12, HC 9
1Q 4:11 - Kelly Faris picks up her second foul early! Close game at 9-8, HC.
1Q 7:13 - Action underway. Trading buckets for a 2-2 start. Jones on the line for HC, puts them up by 2 more. Big foul on Pickering way away from the basket.
Warmups are underway. About 10 minutes before tip-off.
BTW, if you were in the stands today and saw some fool woman trip over the obviously marked bump on the floor behind the press tables, and who managed to stay on her feet for about 20 feet forward before recovering, yes... that was me. Sheese.
