UE's Parker headed to Finland
Region Roundball Review

From the UE athletic office:

Over the last four years, Rebekah Parker has been one of the best players in the Midwest as a member of the University of Evansville women’s basketball program.  Now, she will take her game international beginning in September, as Parker has signed a professional contract to play for the Pussihukat-Vantaa basketball club in the Finnish Basketball Association.

Parker, who graduated from UE in May with a degree in physical education and health, will become the second Purple Ace to play professionally overseas after graduation, joining 2002 UE graduate Shinko Ono who played professionally in her native Japan for the Japan Energy.  Parker will embark on her professional career beginning on September 1 with a trip to her new hometown of Vantaa, Finland.

Parker will leave Evansville as one of the program’s most decorated players.  A four-year starter, Parker is the only basketball player in school history, male or female, to record over 1,400 career points, 600 career rebounds, 400 career assists, and 175 career steals.  She became UE’s first three-time all-Missouri Valley Conference selection this past season, earning first team all-Valley honors for the second consecutive year.  Parker was also named to the 2008 Lowe’s Senior All-America first team, while becoming UE’s second MVC Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 as a junior.

Parker capped her four-year career in style this past year, as she earned UE’s Lois D. Patton (top senior female scholar-athlete) and Ida M. Stieler (top female athlete) Awards after helping Evansville to a share of its first MVC regular-season title, a 21-12 overall record and a second-round showing in the 2008 Postseason WNIT by averaging a team-best 14.5 points per game, while ranking among the MVC’s leaders in nine different statistical categories.  Parker finished her career ranking third all-time at UE in both career points (1,480) and career steals (197), and fifth in career rebounds (653) and career assists (409).  Overall, she ranks among UE’s career leaders in seven different statistical categories.

Parker will join a Pussihukat program which finished eighth in the nine-team Finnish Basketball Association last year with an 8-24 overall record.  The Pussihukat club team is located in Vantaa, Finland, which helps make up the Helsinki Metropolitan Area in southern Finland, and is the fourth most populated city in the country with a population of over 190,000 people.  The term Pussihukat loosely translates into “basket wolves.”
