Seniors to defend state honor at Conseco tonight

The new shortened Indiana All-Stars format will receive its ultimate test tonight when the Indiana All-Stars host the Kentucky All-Stars at Conseco Fieldhouse tonight. The two exhibition scrimmages this past week have gone a long way in preparing the All-Stars for the most important game of the series.

After being stunned by the Juniors on Monday night, the Seniors came out with a better mindset on Wednesday to pull off a convincing win over the Juniors, which bodes well heading into night's game. However, one of head coach Kem Zolman's greatest concerns is the toughness of his team.

"I don't think we have a very physical team," Zolman said in the Post-Tribune. "This is an intense rivalry. I know when we go down there, there's going to be a few bumps. We need to be able to handle it."

Hopefully Zolman will get his message across to the Seniors, most who are headed to the next level where physical play of this type will be the norm.

Over the two scrimmage games, the All-Stars have had several step up and lead the charge for the seniors. On Monday, it was Purdue recruits Brittany Rayburn and Alex Guyton who put up solid numbers, together with ISU recruit Deja Mattox. On Wednesday,  there was more balanced scoring from the seniors, with Danielle Havel, Mattox, Lindsay Enterline and Kaley May all in double figures. Guyton, who fouled out in the first game and had three fouls in the second, will be key to that battle in the paint if the Seniors are to be successful. She averaged 11 rebounds per game in just 18 minutes per contest. Havel has also been strong on the boards with 7.5 per game, while Mattox has been another strong contributor with 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in just 13.5 minutes per game.
