The state finals seemed to have come way too fast, but we'll keep you updated on the last throes of the 2007-2008 season with our courtside coverage throughout the day. We'll be blogging during the game and bring you (hopefully) some decent photos after each game.
ALL BLOGS ARE BELOW. YOU WILL NEED TO SCROLL DOWN TO SEE EACH.
Mental attitude winner - Danielle Havel, Carmel
Carmel wins it 84-72. Steffen with 31 points.
0:38 - Carmel has this sealed. 84-68 with 30 to go
1:24 - Larry hits 1 of 2 from the line. Carmel in command 81-68
2:03 - Diggins picks up her 3rd. Steffen hits 2 of 2, Carmel 79, SBW 67
2:18 - SBW isn't going to go away quietly. They score 4 straight to get the margin down to 10.
3:11 - SBW will need a miracle. Down 14 points with just about 3 minutes to go. Carmel just looks unstoppable with so many options on the floor. As I said, Havel is having a great game. Numerous deflections and steals. She might not be the leading scorer at this point, but this is definitely HER team.
3:37 - Havel has been all-everything for the Greyhounds in this game. 15 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists. Miss Basketball anyone?
5:06 - And the Greyhounds keep pouring it on. They've stretched their lead to 11 on back-to-back buckets by Spearman. Carmel has four players in double figures.
7:04 - Larry down with what looks like an ankle injury.
7:40 - Havel is a tough, tough competitor on the block. She scores 2 on a putback. Carmel 64, SBW 57
0:00 - Diggins buries the 3 to get SBW within 6, 62-56. Diggins has 22 so far, followed by Larry with 21 for SBW. Steffen is leading everyone with 25 points .
:21 - SBW will take the last shot of the quarter.
1:35 - Diggins fouled on a trey, she hits 1 of 3. Carmel 60, SBW 53
2:12 - Carmel still in control 58-50. SBW having a hard time finding the bottom of the basket, but shot selection is suspect. A bit of desperation is starting to show for the Panthers.
2:44 - McRoberts buries the 3, Carmel 56, SBW 46 (biggest lead for the Greyhounds in the game)
4:05 - Carmel extends its lead to 8. You'd think they couldn't keep up the same shooting percentage in the 2nd half, but they are on pace. Carmel 52, SBW 44
5:46 - Steffen picks up her 3rd. Larry at the line hits both. Carmel 47, SBW 44
6:35 - Carmel still up by three, 45-42
OMG - The scorers forgot to start the clock. I'm guessing play has been going on for at least 20 secs.
Interesting first half stats:
- Carmel is hitting 57% from the field (50% 3pt); SBW 45.7% (30% 3pt)
- Carmel 9 turnovers, 9 steals; SBW 10 turnovers, 5 steals
- Carmel 2nd chance points 8, SBW 2 (although SBW has 10 Oboards)
Scoring first half:
Diggins 14, Larry 18, Steffen 17, Spearman 8
0:00 - Action is fast and furious here at Conseco. Steffen has been outstanding for Carmel in the first half. Waiting on first half stats, but I think she is close to 20. Carmel is playing outstanding defense and the smaller SBW guards are having trouble getting their passes over the long-arm Greyhound defense. Carmel finishes with a 6-4 run, finishing with a 3-point lead at the half, 43-39. Fun game!
1:09 - Carmel wreaking havoc on defense. Steal on the inbounds and Steffen at the line for 2. She hits them both. Carmel 37, SBW 35
2:19 - Carmel is shooting lights out. But Diggins answers with a 3. Carmel 33, SBW 31
2:51 - Larry at the line after a foul by Thorton. She hits both. Carmel 31, SBW 28
3:35 - Havel with a steal and a really good layup. Great body control. And one goes. Carmel 29, SBW 22
4:24 - McRoberts for 3. Carmel up by 4, 26-22
5:21 - SBW closing the gap 22-20. Steffen is fouled on a layup, she hits the first and the second. Carmel 24, SBW 20. Timeout Carmel.
6:05 - Diggins answers back with a 2. Carmel 22, SBW 18
7:05 - Steffen reels off 5 straight points. Carmel 22, SBW 16 (Steffen having a great half. Has 12 of Carmel's 22 points)
0:00 - Lots of turnovers in the last minute. Carmel 17, SBW 14
1:29 - Some back and forth scoring. Carmel 13, SBW 12
2:59 - Phillips hits a 3. Carmel 9, SBW 8

6:06 - Another bucket by Carmel
6:45 - Steffen swishes a 3, Carmel 5, SBW 3
7:24 - Diggins hits a 3 after Steffen hits a 2. SBW 3, Carmel 2
Teams are warming up. Stay tuned!

First half impressions:
Great game so far. Very physical but being well played by both teams. Pretty good execution and good shot selection. Plymouth is much more patient on offense and it is paying off with some pretty good looks. Junior Lyzz Smith has been huge off the bench for the Pilgrims with 7 points. She leads all Plymouth scorers. For Chatard, Boese and Gardner both have 7.
0:00 - Chatard unable to score on the last possession. A long three from Plymouth falls short.

First half impressions:
Great game so far with some excellent talent on the floor. Great guards, good post play and strong effort by both teams. Shot selection seems to be hurting OH at this point. HC seems to execute better as a team with better ball movement, creating some great open looks. Leading scorers for HC are Farris and Stratman, each with 8, while Hicks has 6 and Moses has 4 for Oak Hill.
2A Second quarter:
0:00 - End of the half. HC still in control, holding the defense against a last second OH attempt by Moses.

2:02 - Game stopped for an injury to Alyssa Burton. She walks off the court on her own.
3:41 - HC increases their lead to 17-12. Both teams playing extremely well, although OH seems to be taking some ill-advised shots, i.e. 1 on 3. Oak Hill crowd is very vocal, great showing!

3rd - 3:45 - The Cavaliers take the lead on some sharp shooting that eluded them in the first half. Canterbury 25, University 21.
First half impressions:
University seems to be the more disciplined team in the first half, taking better care of the ball, although not by much. Canterbury with 13 first-half turnovers and University with 9.
Leading scorers for University: Katie Adlam, Ieysha Walker and Erin Bortz all with 4 apiece.
Leading scorers for Canterbury: Aubrey Holle with 6 and Becky Pedro and Tabitha Gerardot each with 4.
Canterbury has the lead on the boards 24 (Gerardot 8) -19 (Williams and Bortz 4 each), but both teams are shooting miserably from the floor -- both in the mid-20s. University is playing within a better offensive format and are just missing shots. Canterbury is throwing up a lot of tough shots.
University may have the legs to finish this horse race. The Cavaliers did not sub the entire first half, while the Blazers put 8 different players on the floor in the opening 16 minutes.
2nd - 0:00 - Canterbury had a chance to take the lead on a last shot in the half, but didn't seem to know that time was winding down. Another turnover by Canterbury to end the half.

2nd - 4:58 - Bucket by Becky Pedro keeps Canterbury within 3 points.
2nd - 5:38 - University puts on the full court press, but Canterbury handles it well. However, another turnover caused by some good University defense.
1st - 0:00 - Canterbury fails to get a final shot off in the first quarter due to the scrambling defense of University. Both teams are playing hard, but turnovers are making this a back and forth game without a whole lot of structured offensive sets.
1st - 0:51 - A monster block by Cassie Krieger gets the Canterbury crowd on their feet!
1st - 1:24 - Canterbury with 7 turnovers. They will have to control the ball better to close the gap. Two made FTs from senior Aubrey Holle helps get the score to 9-6.
1st - 2:32 - Cavaliers hitting 25% from the field, University shooting 44%.
1st - 3:30 - Finally the Cavaliers score on a layup by soph Tabitha Gerardot. But University answers with 5 points of their own.

10:40 - The action is underway and University holds a 4-0 lead. Lots of turnovers on both sides... maybe some state championship jitters.
