The third annual 2005 Top 100 IBCA/IHSAA Basketball Showcase was held at Ben Davis High School on Saturday. Over 100 players were able to strut their stuff in front of a pretty good gathering of college coaches ranging from D-1 to NAIA. We were able to catch some of the action for you in our Top 100 Photo Gallery.

Although some of Indiana's top high school underclassmen weren't there due to other commitments, there was plenty of talent on hand to make the games competitive. The college coaches we talked to all seemed impressed by the level of talent at this year's Showcase.

Although we arrived late and missed quite a bit of the first round of games, we did catch both the second and third round of games in the afternoon.

So who played well in our opinion? Keep in mind that we missed a lot of the morning games and tried hard to catch all teams in the afternoon but just didn't quite get them all in. However, with that said, we offer some team by team coverage with comments about some of the players that caught our eye during the games we did see.

From the Black Team, Kayleigh Dye, a 6'2" center from Triton Central did a nice job in the post. She played well offensively, but it was her defense that was most impressive. She blocked several shots and held her own in the paint against some of the more athletic post players she faced. Stephanie Thomas, a 5'10" G/F from Avon was also very impressive. She was tenacious on defense, hustled and proved she could put the ball in the basket.

From the Teal Team, Sha'la Jackson, a 5'9 G/F from Fort Wayne Southside was hard to handle for most of the teams she faced. She's very athletic and talented. One of our Region girls, Angie Bush, a 5'9 guard from Morgan Township, struggled from the field a little in the second round of games, but caught fire in the third round.

From the Navy Team, Lindsey Ransome, a 5'6 guard from Perry Central played very well. From the Columbia Team, Stephanie Gehlhausen, a 5'9 G/F from Castle showed some strong skills and Melanie Thornton, a 5'11" athletic post player from Carmel is the real deal. She attacked the basket and spent a lot time at the free throw line converting three point plays.

Rising juniors Kristen Dockery of South Bend St. Joseph's
and Becca Bruszewski of Wheeler tangle in the paint.

The Royal Team had Kristen Dockery, a 6'4" post player from South Bend St. Joe. Kristen is high on the D-I radar screen and proved why by playing strong. She's got great hands and if she gets the ball anywhere in the paint, she scores at will. Olivia Martin, a 5'8" guard from Kokomo also showed up to play. Allison Lutocka, a 6'0" F/C from Plainfield also played well and, teamed with Jessica Wolfe this year, will make Plainfield tough to beat.

From the Red Team, region star Becca Bruszewski, a 6'1 forward from Wheeler was at her best. She has great size and handles the ball like a point guard. Susan Lester, a 6'1 post player from Pendleton Heights is very, very impressive. She's got good size and is very physical in the paint.

For the Maroon Team, Sarah Fenneman, a 6'0 center from Evansville Reitz and Alyssa Pittman, a 5'8" G/F from Elkhart Memorial both came to play. They were both very aggressive and attacked the basket. First time we've seen Sarah and we were impressed. Also, we really liked Casey Magnuson, a 5'5" sparkplug who can score from just about anywhere and distributes pinpoint passes.

From the Purple Team, Courtney Reed, a 5'9 G/F from Northfield and region star Kelly Watts, a 5'11 G/F from East Chicago Central, stood out. A couple of other region players, Kelly Peller (Chesterton) and Hannah Plumley (Crown Point) also played on that team and did not disappoint.

For the Orange Team, post players Erica Simpson, a 6'0 forward from Gary West Side and Jessica Wolfe, a 6'1 forward from Plainfield looked very good. Both benefited from the strong guard play of Audrey McDonald, a 5'8 standout from Kokomo who can pass and score from anywhere on the floor. All three of these girls are on the wish lists of notable D-I programs.

We did not get to see enough of Forrest Team, Gold Team, and Kelly Team to fairly evaluate or mention players of note. If you were at the Showcase and saw players you felt performed well, please add your comments about them below.

The following players were late additions to the workout and were not listed in the original IBCA/IHSAA press release of invitees.

Jennifer Engle - Martinsville

Lauren Kenney - Mooresville

Silvia Massey - Ben Davis

Azjah Bass - Lawrence North

Chelsey Kilty - Huntington North

I agree, What is the criteria? Didn't Wynn participate last year?

She played well and actually has transfered to Bishop Chatard from Warren. She did a nice defensive job on Bougher from Luthern.
